The Check is in the Mail (villanelle)

By dwells

They told us that our system would prevail
Our virtue was the armor that we wore
The good guys win, the bad guys go to jail

In God we trust our enemies would quail
Our faith was strong, our sacrifices pure
They told us that our system would prevail

With altruistic spirits we assail
Injustice that our hearts cannot ignore
The good guys win, the bad guys go to jail

The mind of Man was easy to impale
With pointed words the courts would not ignore
Exposing that our system was to fail

As Justice wore the mantle of betrayal
Corruption oozed from every open sore
The good guys lost, the bad guys out on bail

Divided now, allegiances for sale
Our destiny, another civil war
They told us that our system would prevail
The good guys win, the bad guys go to jail

I think Kaiser hit the nail on the head. This was well thought out and intelligent. The way you use your words to narrate such a truth. This is good.

All of this dan. All of it. Your social commentary is always on point. That last stanza is a crushing realization of what's to come. "The good guys lost, the bad guys out on bail" so true my friend.
