Tales o Glory

By HighlandHillbilly

Culloden, Falkirk, Bannockburn, and a few more,
Thermopylae, Camerone, Alamo, these are the stories.
Stir the blood and quicken the heart they drive young men,
To the recruiting desk we go wanting to make our own tales.
We suffer thru training, wanting the glory,
Then we are there and it is our time to shine.
After we come home we understand what the young do not,
Why we only tell those tales among older men, or when very drunk.

Amen, Brother! case in point... my uncle was captured by the Germans while he was fighting for Patton in Africa during WW2... I only heard him speak of it once... he had been drinking and when I asked him about it the next day, all he would say was that maybe, someday, I would understand... God Bless the Warriors! ~worm~
