Vultures

By Damien

With dead eyes

leaves all doubt behind

it's not the darkness that blinds

The still water seems almost glass like
unrelenting, unrepenting
a mirrored finish with black shine
moss hangs like deaths fingers
dropping playfully on the river
They watch with discerning eyes

They don't see me
exploring, ignoring, abhorring
any living part of the scenery
harbinger, unrewarded, disregarded
wanting only the dead in me

Slowly, deliberately with spread black wings
floating, effortlessly as if they see everything
why bleed inside
a rotting corpse barely alive
picking lifeless bones clean
fly away largely unseen

It is in this I regard the vulture
as a necessary evil in our culture
how you livin' with all the lies
they wait and watch with death's eyes
discerning eyes
for the end of life
yours and mine

With dead eyes
leave all doubt behind
it's not the darkness that blinds
perched between living and dying
they watch with discerning eyes

The bridge between life in death, waiting in suspense for the living to become the dead, oh how they will feast. Necessary evil indeed. Wonderful poem.

Definitely Damien - and down below we've got to keep moving or else! Immensely enjoyed this characterization and the way you gave Nature's garbage men a definitely Dark Poetry twist. Perfect, and cheers! - Dan

Mo, you have been my most faithful supporter since day one. I can't tell you enough how much that means to me. When an artist connects with someone it's a special bond. I only hope someday we meet face to face so I can thank you for your kind words. I say we drink until we forget our names. I got the first round. Later bro
