In a Cortisol Clock

By Wednesday Addams

This lighthouse is a well
where I am stuck at the bottom.
I lay there with my eyes
traveling up the spiral stair.
I always wanted to dance
up til this violins handle ends.
It's the longest of violin
scrolls waiting for me.
They say that there is the
body of a violin buried
underneath the lighthouse.
Though I was flying up there
for seconds just rusting away.
I try to erase all the seagulls
cleaning blood away from the sky.
You see they saved my life.
I had hung myself from millions
of ribbons on the railing of the
violin scroll that tightens time.
When I was falling down faster
than an elevator, all of them
grabbed strands of my hair.
You see they only just wanted
a nest but I have survived.
Now their screeching above
because they think I messed
up their sky when I cry.
The beacons of their beaks
break into a million pieces.
No I didn't want to really die
because I was sleep walking.
They are released out of the
cartoon world as a token.
I'm still there almost broken.

I love, love, love the presence of the violin in this achingly beautiful write. This packs some stunning imagery, and it weaves together like a vine that is twisting around my body. You do some really good work, dearie. Rebs:).

I've always loved lighthouses so I was hooked immediately...but this was really great. Everything about the seagulls and the sky...just amazing. One of your best.
